"What would you know, you're nothing but a street rat." The well dressed lady said.
"Wait, a deals a deal. You told me if I got you the Counts day book you'd give me two gold." Shadowsplay said, her dark eyes fixed on her clients face.
The lady adjusted her skirts as she sat down on the couch, and peered out the window onto the darkened streets of Stormwind. Shadowsplay stood there a nervous tension building in her stomach. She knew something was wrong. But, she wanted the money, she needed the money.
"And just what is silly little girl like you going to do? You have no one to advocate for you, you poor little girl, lost her parents in the war did she? Ha ha ha, oh you poor thing, did I hurt your feelings?" The woman said.
Shadowsplay stood there, staring at her. Slightly moving her weight from foot to foot, she attempted to raise her hand, as if she were back on the streets begging for a coin. But, quickly moved it back down to her side. Her black hair falling over her eyes as she tried in vain to figure out what to do.
"You're still here? Did I not dismiss you? Go on now, shoo. I have concluded our business, don't make me take any further actions." She said as she motioned to the hallway behind Shadowsplay.
Turning slightly to look into the hallway, Shadowsplay saw a large man standing there. One of her guards, perhaps, she thought. She knew she was no match in a fight against him.
"Fine, be that way, renegade on our agreement then. But, don't expect me to help the next time you get into trouble, m'am." Shadowsplay finely said.
"Ha ha, renegade? I do believe you mean renege, dear. I really must talk with the matron at the orphanage, what in Azeroth are they teaching you orphans over there?"
Feeling a bit of anger and embarrassment rising in her Shadowsplay sputtered. "That's..you, she's a good teacher, you leave her out of this!"
"Oh, obviously she is, why you must be her star pupil, now leave me, I am tired of this." She said motioning for her guard to come escort Shadowsplay out.
The guard moved her along to the back door and unceremoniously pushed her out into the alley way. "And don't say nuttin' bout nuttin' got dat ya guttersnipe?" The guard said.
"Yeah, yeah sure, I won't say anything, at least not to anyone you'd know." She said under her breath. She began to move quickly through the shadows of the alley, trying to make distance between her and the noblewomans house. Staying to the shadows she made her way to the trade district, trying to avoid the sentries on duty.
"Now then, let's see. How am I going to get past the front gates?" She thought to herself. She saw a caravan moving it's way down the bridge towards the front gate. She moved over to the edge of the street, walking next to one of the wagons. As the guard came over to inspect the cargo of the wagon, she stealthily walked behind the guard. Once out of the gates and safely in the forest she sprinted towards the small lake just past Goldshire.
Tired and out of breath she slowed to a walk near the docks, where a few fishermen were sitting and talking. They waved at Shadowsplay with a jovial smile and a hearty hello. She timidly waved back and continued on to a small tree just past the docks. She sat down finely feeling confident she wasn't being followed.
"Ha ha you mean renege not renegade." She said mocking the noblewoman. "Yeah, well, let's see how well you renege your way out of not having your keys." she said slipping the noblewomans keys back into her pocket.
